THE STRESS EPIDEMIC

In this culture of fast-paced living, competition and multi-tasking, stress has become an epidemic. This chronic stress has numerous effects on our overall well-being, including decreasing our emotional resilience.


Additionally, in the modern world, we are often not culturally conditioned to value kindness and compassion as a strength and asset. This can lead to social, work-related and professional interactions which are challenging or hostile.


This dynamic also commonly manifests as a conditioned lack of kindness and compassion for ourselves and our own suffering. All this can compound into stressors that make coping with new or stressful situations more difficult and keep us from successfully finding inner and outer well-being.


With the recent interest in how to effectively address high burnout and suicide rates in the veterinary profession, and the increasing stress levels in society in general, this conversation becomes vital to the health of not only individuals but also the health and healing of our society as a whole.

UNDERSTANDING STRESS AND TAKING BACK YOUR CONTROL Stress involves both the psychological perception of pressure or threat and the body's physiological response to it. Stress can affect our mood and emotional responses leading to anxiety, depression, anger or irritability. Chronic stress also results in measurable effects in the physical body which may contribute to physical illness or disease. Additionally, stress has been shown to decrease cognitive function. In short, stress is a recognized contributing factor to experiencing unhappiness, physical illness, mental impairment and the inability to think clearly.


When we have information, we are able to act on that information in order to create positive change and better care for ourselves and those in our care. Understanding the impact of stress provides us with a foundation from which to make informed decisions about our habits and take enlightened action toward creating a more optimal experience of life.


Life will always bring ups and downs. That we can't change.


But we can control how we interact with these life experiences and how we choose to use them as motivators for developing tools to improve our resilience and overall well-being.

HEALING AT THE LEVEL OF THE SOUL When we talk about Whole-being wellness we must, necessarily, define what the parts are that make up our whole human self.


We humans are made of three main bodies: Physical Body, Soul Body and Spirit Body. Within those three main parts exist the aspects of our physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being. They are intricately related and interdependent.


Our modern world is very physically focused. We have great access to physical healing modalities that are concentrated on our flesh, bones and blood. On the food we eat. On the amount of exercise and sleep we get. On medicines and surgery that can be life saving.


In the modern era, though, we have been conditioned to separate our spiritual well-being from our physical well-being. This was never the case in ancient times. It used to be that we were taught that spiritual and physical were both important parts of our health, two sides of the same coin. And that science was validly both physical and metaphysical. Now, although exposure to and research in quantum physics is growing by leaps and bounds, physical science is still considered the only "real" science by many medical practitioners and our western culture as a whole.


That is changing though! We are starting to wake up once again to who we are in all our multifaceted dimensions. It is an exciting time to be on the planet!


A result of the separation which has been made between our Physicality and Spirituality, our Soul and our emotions and mental state have suffered.


This, I believe, is a huge contributing factor to the increasing stress and anxiety we are seeing in society. This is a sickness of the Soul. And the remedy is to reconnect with the core of who we are so that we can become whole again as we live our lives successfully in this physical world and ALSO take care of the physical.

WHY I AM DOING THINGS LIKE THIS?


1) I have first hand lived experience of the truth of these things I am presenting for your consideration here.


2) I am not attached to whether you believe what I am saying or not.


3) I have seen lives transformed and people liberated from inner turmoil by redefining who they are, connecting with their spiritual core, and making new choices.


3) What I care about is that the thousands, maybe even millions, of people who DO feel deep inside like there is something missing and are LOOKING for something to help them live a better life have the option to choose a new way of understanding who they are and what they are capable of achieving. That these people, who are interested in knowing about an effective path to achieve that are able to choose that path. I see a lot of human suffering every day. And most of it is internal....anxiety, stress, overwhelm. We need to live differently and we need a new way to understand how to do that.



What are the main obstacles preventing you from making those changes?

  • Low self-worth or self-love

  • Lack of will power

  • Lack of hope that things can get better

IF YOU DON'T KNOW, YOU CAN'T CHOOSE

When I am talking about Spirituality, I am not talking about religion.


Your Spirituality has nothing to do with religion, although you may choose to express that through a religious dogma, practice or construct. Positive community connections are a powerful positive force in religious and spiritual communities.


Outside of the various religious preferences and heritage, the important question ultimately is: Are you developing a deeper and clearer connection with who you are, where you came from, where you are going, and what the purpose of your life is from a higher perspective?


If we all had a lived understanding of those things, we would feel peaceful. We would experience Joy as we were living our life in alignment with who we really are and not based on what others expect from us or how others define us or what society says we should be doing. We might still do all those things, but we would be doing them because they fulfilled us. And the world would be a more peaceful place. We would not only be happy, we would experience joy thoughout all the activities and events of our life.
